History of Freshwater
Freshwater was once a settlement of Kuring-gai people. Until today, open campsites, rock engravings, and rock shelters from the Aboriginals were preserved as an evidence of their early habitat.
Thomas Bruin acquired 50 acres of land near the beach on September 1815. It was subdivided by the Manly land company in 1884 and was named as Freshwater.
The suburb’s name attracted so much debate and controversy due to the resident’s preferences. A number of residents want Freshwater to be named as Harbord, while others want it to remain still. Despite the heated arguments, Freshwater was sealed and declared as the official name of the suburb.
