Collaroy is a suburb located in the northern portion of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It sits 14 miles of the central business district and lies under the governance of the Northern Beaches Region.
The suburb is a big community with over 14,000 residents according t the 2011 census, mostly are from the English ancestry. There were Australian and Irish as well.
History of Collaroy
The suburb’s name was derived from S.S Collaroy ship, which got submerged on the beach during a storm on 1881. The ship was found wrecked on a Californian coast in 1889.
Industrial and commercial development started in the suburb in the mid twentieth century.
Three post offices opened in Collaroy area. Collaroy Beach Post Office started its operation on February 1923, Collaroy Plateau Post Office on April 1949, and the Collaroy West Post Office on November 1967. In 1969, the West Office was renamed to Collaroy Plateau.
Collaroy Suburb Today
Collaroy has one of the longest and continuous surf beaches in Sydney, which is approximately 3.4 kilometers long. It became the surfing hub for all surfers which consequently gave birth to four surf lifesaving clubs in the region--- the North Narrabeen SLC, Collaroy SLC, Narrabeen SLC, and South Narrabeen SLC.
