Beacon Hill is a town located in Northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is within the local government of the Northern Beaches Council and is located 11 miles from Sydney’s CBD.
History of Beacon Hill
In 1881, after the construction of the trigometric Beacon, The Department of Lands has granted Beacon Hill a land title. During the European Settlement, Daniel Egan bought two 40-acres of land and built a small community within the area.
Not long after the World War II, housing developments begun. Streets were constructed and named after notable military man, places, and battles during the war. Few of the famous names used are Goroka Place, Owen Stanley Avenue, Kokoda Crescent, and Lae Place.
The first post office in Beacon Hill opened on August 1949 and the Beacon Hill High School was founded on 1964.
