From the context of its location, the name Bayview literally means view across Pittswater.
On March 1788, Arthur Phillip journey from Manly to another piece of nearby land, which he later called Pitt Water in honor of the UK’s Prime Minister, William Pitt.
On 1972, John Hunter explored the Pitt Water and he created a map showing the inlets and bays in the suburb.
Patrick Bryan arrived in the place in 1821 and built a house exactly where the current Bayview Golf Links is located.
