History of Avalon Beach
Avalon Beach was named after the legendary island in Celtic language mythology, Avalon, where King Arthur died and buried.
Arthur J Small developed the land into a subdivision in 1921 and he named it Avalon.
Significant developments were recorded during that time. Alexander Sterwart Jolly designed and constructed houses during the 1920’s. Houses like the Loggan Rock, Careel House, Hy Brasil, and Wickam are fine architectures during that decade and are still in use today.
Sports and Recreation in Avalon Beach

The Beach has a 25-metre salt water rock pool, where guests and residents can surf and swim all day. No wonder why several prominent surfing champions are native of the Avalon. One example is Ben Player.
In 1892, Avalon Soccer club was built and it has over 1000 registered players and 80 teams. Apart from that, they also have Avalon Junior Rugby League Club, who has active players representing the Australian National Rugby League.
